Reading 1: What is globalization?

1) Summary

By reading the article, I understood the concept of globalization better. With the development of the world, globalization exists in almost every aspect of our lives, and it almost inevitably covers many scientific perspectives and world views. Globalization is controversial. From the perspective of Velho (1997),Globalization is an object, a perspective, and a horizon, and the world is undergoing tremendous changes.in the Velho paradigm, globalization may be understood as the direction in which the world considered as a whole is moving. But everyone has a different perspective on globalization, so the discussion is still ongoing.

It is very widely, if somewhat misleadingly, thought that the most important single defining feature of globalization – whether considered as a very long-term process or a rather short one – is that of increasing connectivity. It is not hard to see that global awareness is growing, but the way it works is complex. We should also attach great importance to conflicts and problems arising from all aspects, not ignore or deny them.

Globalization includes two broad trends: increased global connectivity and increased global awareness.

The globalization of the United Nations is concentrated on four aspects: nation-state, world politics, individuals and humanity.

Globalization is the four main aspects of human life, namely culture, society, politics and economy. The culture and economy of the modern world are closely interconnected.

Globalization is also a phenomenal process of human social development.

2) Interesting point

I find it interesting that the author of this article gives me a better understanding of the impact of globalization on my life throughout history. Moreover, globalization involves a lot of contents. The conflict about globalization is obvious among different countries. It can be seen from this that globalization is developing countries have different understanding of globalization.

3) Discussion point

Now that COVID-19 has come, globalization has been severely affected. How can we continue our globalization path in the era of COVID-19?

Comments

  1. I think it's a good topic for discussion :)
It is true that direct exchanges between countries have decreased due to COVID-19. However, with the development of science, people in places where the Internet has spread can meet online! Therefore, I think globalization on the Internet can last as long as possible.
