Reading Assignment 4: Economic Globalization --HE YUNONG

Economic Globalization   - CorporationsPeter Dicken 1) Summary The author denies the view that economic globalization has weakened the autonomy of nation-states, and carefully describes and explains the nature and significance of transnational corporations in the process of economic globalization. The following five points were mainly discussed: 1.The scale and geographical distribution of multinational corporations in the global economy: In fact, the forms and scales of transnational corporations are different. Global corporations operating in dozens of countries and transnational corporations operating only in one or two countries outside their headquarters have one thing in common, that is, they operate in different political, social and cultural environments. There are more and more kinds of multinational companies in the global economy. 2.why and how the company engages in transnational activities; Go-to-market investments: Improving profitability will likely depend on expanding

What is the relation between politics and globalization?  - Gerard Delanty and Chris Rumford 1) Summary Political globalization has been widely discussed in the globalization literature, the process of political globalization opens up new possibilities of liberation, on the other hand globalization leads to the loss of autonomy and the fragmentation of the social world. The authors argue that political globalization refers to the tensions arising from the interplay of three processes: global geopolitics, global normative culture, and polycentric networks. Second, the author argues that the direction of political globalization is not a new global governance order or a world society, but a transnational political action that challenges neoliberal politics. The author supports his point through four examples of transitions in nationality and citizenship, public sphere and political communication, civil society, space and borders. Because of the conditions of globalization, the nation-s

Reading 2: "What is the relation between culture and globalization? " --HE YUNONG 1) Summary As for the definition of "cultural globalization", there is no clear and unified definition so far. Tomlinson put forward a proposition that "globalization is complex connection", that is, globalization refers to the concentrated development and increasingly intensive interdependent network system. Tomlinson described cultural globalization as a process of non-territorial expansion, that is, the unification of local and global cultures. Globalization is not only the global flow of capital, labor and commodities, but also fundamentally transforms the relationship between the place where we live and our cultural practice, cultural experience and cultural identity, bringing a new cultural experience-non-territorial expansion. This kind of cultural experience is secular. For example, McDonald's and Coca-Cola can quickly occupy the Asian catering industry with orie

Hofstede: An Analysis of the Individualism Index in China, Korea and Ireland ——HE YUNONG I compared China, South Korea and France in the Hofstede variable, and it can be seen from the figure that the individualism index of the three countries has the largest difference, so I analyzed the reasons for the differences in the individualism index of the three countries. China and South Korea are collectivist with 20 and 18 points respectively, while to my surprise France is individualistic with a score of 71, far ahead of China and South Korea. For this I performed the following analysis. South Korea is slightly more collectivist than China. Collectivism in South Korea As can be seen from the management ideas of Korean companies, Korean companies particularly emphasize pride and teamwork, and encourage every employee to integrate into the group and carry forward the spirit of unity and collectivism. For example, the unity and harmony and pioneering spirit of the LG group. China's collec

WVS:Neighborhood Safety Comparison between China, Korea and Brazil ——Ten groups: He Yunong, Li Minhui We compared the World Values Survey Wave 7(2017-2022) question on neighborhood safety between China, South Korea, and Brazil. What surprised us from the survey results data table is that Brazil considers unsafe as high as 55.4%, while China considers unsafe only 8.9%. Second, South Korea has a moderate rate, with 30.9% of those who think it is unsafe. In the Inglehart-Welzel world cultural map, we can see that China and South Korea are similar, both belong to Confucianism and are located in the middle and upper part of the map; while Brazil is somewhat distant from China and South Korea, belongs to Latin America and is located in the middle area of the map, It can be seen that the x-axis of China and South Korea and Brazil are similar, and both belong to survival values; while from the y-axis, Brazil belongs to traditional values, while China and South Korea belong to secular values.

WVS:Analysis of Religious Importance to China, South Korea, Japan and Indonesia ——HE YUNONG I compared the seventh World Values Survey (2017-2022) among China, South Korea, Japan and Indonesia on whether religion is important in life. To my surprise, 98.1% of Indonesia think religion is very important, while 86.2% of China think it is not very important and not important at all. Secondly, China and Japan are similar, with a high rate of believing that religion is not important in life, while South Korea has a medium rate, with 35.8% believing that it is rather important and very important. In the Inglehart-Welzel World Cultural Map2022, we can see that China, Japan and South Korea are close to each other, all belonging to Confucianism and located in the middle and upper part of the map; Indonesia is far from China, Japan and South Korea, belonging to African Islam and located in the lower left area of the map. China, Japan and South Korea are similar because of their close geographica

What Is Globalization?   - Roland Robertson and Kathleen E. White 1) Summary By reading this article, I have a better understanding of the concept and definition of globalization, and also discovered the controversy about globalization.  In the Velho(1997) paradigm, globalization may be understood as the direction in which the world considered as a whole is moving.  Globalization is mainly divided into two trends: increased global connectivity and increased global awareness. Globalization is divided into four modes: nation-state, world politics, individual and human. The main dimensions of globalization are cultural, social, political and economic. 2) Interesting items What impressed me most in this article was that there was a lot of discussion about what Ritzer called McDonaldization (2000).  I think it's very interesting, just like hiring employees from different countries will cause frustration in internal communication. Because of language and cultural problems, their ways o
