Reading 1: What is globalization? —ZHENG YAYUAN 정아원

1) Summary

Through this book, I have a new understanding of the concept of globalization. The author introduces us to the impact of globalization on us through multiple angles and directions. With the rapid social and economic development, globalization comes not to be an unfamiliar word to all of us. Though we are living in the affection of it, yet it is hard to tell it’s advantages and disadvantages.

There are many definitions of globalization, and globalization has different meanings in different environments. In the definition of globalization: culture, politics, society and economy are the four levels we currently recognize, and the diversity of the global cultural field also makes Our research on globalization is constantly generating new thinking.Robertson and White in "What is Globalization" (2008) write that "Globalization consists primarily of two major directional tendencies, increasing global connectivity and increasing global consciousness."and"Globalization is a process that encompasses the causes, course, and consequences of transnational and transcultural integration of human and nonhuman activities."Globalization is a process that encompasses the causes, course, and consequences of transnational and transcultural integration of human and nonhuman activities.

2) Interesting point

The author's thinking and starting point are very different when explaining globalization. Globalization has gradually moved from a single simple explanation to more thinking jumping levels. Moreover, the author also said that everyone's cognition and understanding of globalization in each field is different. , starting from our own thinking, we will find that our understanding of globalization is not only a single cognition but also full of diversity. The meanings found in this diversity and different perspectives are the most interesting in my opinion.

3) Discussion point

The popularity of globalization will also lead us to think about the advantages and disadvantages of globalization on human society and life. Do you think the current trend of globalization is that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? Or does it do more harm than good?
