Reading 1: What is Globalization?

 A. Summarry

From the article, i can conclude that globalization has three characteristics, which are:

1. globalization consists primarily of two major directional tendencies, increasing global connectivity and increasing global awareness. 

2. globalization has a certain form, which has been perfected by the founding of the United Nations organization. globalization is focused on four points of reference: nation-states; world politics; individual; and humandkind.

3. globalization is shaped by four main aspects of human life - namely, cultural, social, political and economic.

According to Velho (1997), globalization is an object, perspective and horizon. In Velho's paradigm, globalization can be understood as the direction in which the world is considered as a whole to move. Globalization has three major dimensions, which are the economic, the political and the cultural. Examples of globalization in economic and cultural dimensions can be founded easily from brands like McDonalds, Nike, Starbucks, etc.

From the article, i can highlight that recognition of the conceptual status of globalization is also very important.


B. Interesting Point

Globalization in the economic dimension spread by America is carried out in a relatively homogeneous manner so that it can form a homogeneity where this kind of spread is very often carried out in most parts of the world.

C. Discussion point

In the article, it stated “ Yet some people, very misleadingly, speak of ‘a globalized world’”. What kind of mislead it is?
