What is globalization? Harun Sharif

Summary
Globalization has a broad definition but, in short it is a way of saying the world is becoming a whole.

The concept of globalization has been around for a long time but during the 20th, with the creation of the United Nations, there has been a rapid growth and demand for this. This was one of the first forms and step of the globalization we are experiencing now.

However, globalization is not only a collaboration of multiple nations. As I stated in the beginning it has a very broad definition and can include multiple topics e.g., global governance, global citizenship, human rights, migration and the creation of diasporas, transnational connections of various kinds and so on. Not only does this require a collaboration of different nations but, it also requires humans to be connected to one another and communication.

This article characterizes globalization in three points. First, globalization consists of two major directional tendencies which are, global connectivity and global consciousness. This does not imply consensus, merely a shared sense of the world as one. Second, globalization has a particular form, one which has been, to all intents and purposes, consummated by the founding of the United Nations organization. This means that, like the operations of the UN, globalization is focused upon four points of reference: nation-states; world politics; individuals; and humankind. Third, globalization is constituted by four major facets of human life – namely, the cultural, the social, the political and the economic.

What did I learn?
The author mentions multiple topics on that include globalization which I found interesting. Since it has such a broad definition it is difficult to be specific on what globalization exactly means. The author also mentions a few key moments in history that helped form the world as it is today.

Discussion
Globalization can be seen as the solution to evolve humanity to the next age. But can it also mean the end of unique cultures and traditions?
