What is Globalization? (YeonWoo Kim)

Globalization is such a multifaceted concept that opinions are divided among various countries and scholars. This is also because the definition of globalization continues to change over time and as science develops.Globalization is being talked about in various fields such as anthropology, religion, and sociology. It can be said that globalization is a "unification" of a wide and diverse world, so there is a very deep connection between the economic and socio-cultural fields. Political scientists, economists and international relation specialists have considered connectivity. While historians, anthropologists and sociologists have considered consciousness.

The most interesting part for me was 'The Dimensions Of Globalization'. Sociologists argue that globalization has political, social, and economic aspects. Among them, it is said that the social aspect gets attention together as the economic aspect gets attention. A good example of this is McDonaldization by Ritzer. Ritzer tried to explain this through the global expansion of companies such as Starbucks, kfc, and Nike. However, even in the case of such large companies, it was found that there should be some convergence with the understanding of local cultural factors. This is evidence that economic and cultural factors are close to globalization. At the same time, in order to obtain global capital, cultural understanding of other countries must be supported.

Finally, I would like to share the questions I heard while reading about the document with other students.

The first question. Will globalization have a positive or negative effect on developing countries? I'd like to discuss the reason with the side that is likely to play a bigger role between the two.

The second question. Is globalization advancing or regressing cultural diversity?

Comments

  1. I think globalization regresses cultural diversity.
As the unique culture of each country becomes globalized in one form, I think that diversity itself disappears. Of course, cultures appear in various forms, but it is because it is fundamentally felt that all countries flow into similar cultures
