Reading Assignment 3: Political Globalization——YE SIQI

What is the relation between politics and globalization?

 - Gerard Delanty and Chris Rumford

1)summary
Political globalization has been much discussed in the globalization literature where the emphasis has been on the decline of the nation-state under the impact of global forces, which have created different kinds of politics arising from, on the one hand, the development of transnational networks and flows, and, on the other, processes of de- and reterritorialization.According to the authors, political globalization can be understood as a tension between three processes that interact to create complex areas of global politics: global geopolitics, global normative culture and polycentric networks. The article explores political globalization from four aspects: the change of nationality and citizenship, the public sphere and political communication, civil society and space and borders.
Communication is at the heart of politics. In the broader context of global dissemination, the global public plays a key role in which they resonate and crystallize much of the content of public discussion.According to the author, the global normative culture is playing a leading role in shaping political communication. Moreover, global normative culture is spread in many forms and is carried by many different types of social subjects.
Globalization has led to changes in space and borders. The emergence of new political spaces and opportunities for boundary/reboundaryization, as well as greater emphasis on mobility, mobility and networks, can serve as connectivity.Space and boundaries can be pluralistic, overlapping and empirical.Under the conditions of globalization, the quantitative relationship between borders and territories has been reversed.Boundaries have become important spaces within and between politics.
Political globalization has led to a series of new tensions, mainly over the right to difference, individuals and communities, liberal democracy and cosmopolitanism.Indeed, political globalization has sought to create the possibility of expanding political conflict around a growing range of concerns, namely governance, identity, mobility and prominent communities.

2)Interesting point
The reference in the article to the result of the referendum on the French Constitution in 2015 on the ratification of the European Constitution demonstrates the importance of the people and their great role.People's solidarity is indispensable in the development of the country, which has a deep connection with the people.

3)Discussion
How should we deal with political globalization?

Comments

  1. That's a good expression. Political globalization may create a series of tensions, but the development of every country cannot be achieved without the solidarity of its people.
