READING 2 : What is the relation between culture and globalization ? LI XINWEI

 Summary :

According to the author, although we are trying to find a way to analyze the absolute system of globalization, globalization is an inherently controversial concept from different perspectives. Many authors who write about globalization begin with their own ideas and definitions of globalization. Velho, for example, thinks of globalization as an object, a perspective and a horizon. The object approach involves viewing globalization as a single process, though unlikely but with enough reflexivity, one can focus on specific objects in an "objective" way. Globalization is characterized by a great convergence of disciplinary orientations, so the resulting debate has always existed. Sociology and anthropology as well as religious studies globalized in this direction in the 1970s and early 1980s, but the concept of globalisation formally entered academia in the late 1980s and early 1980s.

In the late 1990s, the so-called "anti-globalization movement" emerged, primarily but certainly not exclusively in Western societies, and largely through the Internet promoted such a global movement. Finally, people realized that the opposition movement was part of the globalization process. After the 1990s, there was indeed a sense of open markets, free economies and the possibility of privatization. Although there are some differences, most people think of globalization as increasing connectivity.

Interesting

During my reading of this article, I found that globalization is the result of long-term economic development, and it is an unavoidable phenomenon. The article mentions that Western culture will not make other cultures disappear through globalization, but will also bring other different cultures to the West.

one question

As mentioned in the article, globalization is an inevitable and increasingly self-limiting process. I am curious whether we can achieve the so-called true globalization when the world is highly developed economically and culturally.
