Reading Assignment 2: The Relationship between Culture and Globalization --CAIYAYU

   A) Summary

The regionalization of the globalization movement began in the second half of the eighteenth century. On the one hand, the industrial revolution, which first broke out in Britain, gave a great impetus to the development of capitalism. On the other hand, the victory in the North American War of Independence opened a gap in the British imperial colonial system and set an example for national liberation movements in the colonies. The indomitable struggle of the oppressed peoples to escape from the irrational East-West divide became an important element of the globalization movement.

The nation-state is being undermined by globalization and national cultures are being lost under the impact of globalization. The text argues ‘ That the nation-state should actually be regarded as an aspect of globalization. We would almost certainly not be talking about globalization were it not for the existence of nation-states. '

  B) Interesting point

The article mentions the spread of brands such as KFC Starbucks to other parts of the world. However, when they entered countries, they developed new varieties to meet local tastes. For example, KFC entered the Chinese market and developed Chinese Chinese food, and KFC Starbucks has been decorated in some scenic spots to match the scenic spots rather than a global uniform decoration. And many activities have been added for traditional Chinese festivals, which are being developed globally while also incorporating national characteristics and culture.

  C)Discussion point

How can traditional culture be preserved and promoted in the context of globalisation?

Comments

  1. Cultural globalization has impacted traditional culture. After the impact, traditional culture will also be better developed. Only by facing up to traditional culture in a historical dialectical manner, paying attention to the theoretical study of traditional culture, protecting the material carrier of traditional culture, and reconstructing the value system of traditional culture, can traditional culture be better inherited and developed.

  2. I think that various cultures can seek common ground and universality in the process of contacting and communicating with each other. While retaining traditional culture, if we can learn from better culture, it will promote the development of culture. Even human beings and society will progress.
