Reading assignment 2: "What is the relationship between culture and globalization?"
(1) Summary
I think there is a complementary relationship between culture and globalization. Globalization is the center of culture, and culture needs to be spread through globalization. The American neo-Marxist theorist Frederick Jameson has his own unique point of view when discussing the relationship between globalization and culture. He believes that dialectically, globalization has created connections between different sociocultural phenomena, such as connections between different identities, social relations and even different institutions, and these connections must be examined in a historical context. That is, from a cultural perspective, globalization is a concept of communication that in turn masks and conveys cultural or economic significance.
(2) Interesting point
Cultural globalization has a certain timeliness. If a culture does not have the characteristics of accommodating other cultures, then this culture will only be short-lived in the world and will not last long. It's like a trend has gone out of fashion.
The rise of one must prompt another to follow. Culture can influence economics and politics, but the biggest influence is people's values. What is certain here is that a culture that can globalize must be excellent. Just like Hollywood's film culture, it can be said to be very good. After so long in development, it has entered the world. The most famous of these is the production of sci-fi movies, which always shine in China. In China, prior to the release of "The Wandering Earth," Chinese sci-fi production was widely criticized, and people made a joke about Chinese sci-fi production: 50-cent special effects. This has led to the fact that my country's film special effects production has not yet developed, and even if you have money, you will not dare to find it in China. Since the hit of "The Wandering Earth", China's special effects have really been recognized. Some of our films are often compared to foreign countries, and we acknowledge their culture, but we also think our films can be so powerful.
(3) Discussion points
·Under cultural globalization, how can those countries with weak economic strength and weak soft power not let their national culture be swallowed up?
