Reading Assignment 2: What is The Relation Between Culture and Globalization?
Summary
According to Roland Robertson (1992) globalization turning the world into a 'single place' in various ways, especially in social and economic aspects. For example these days it's very easy to access media contents from all around the world, because of that we become connected to other cultures and consuming other cultures which also might lead us to become global consumer and creating global market. Hence one of the most obvious relation between culture and globalization is people's cultural experience influenced by globalization and that affected big impact to the global market.
Interesting point
Tomlinson concludes that instead of ruining, globalization might be the biggest factor that caused and rapidly increasing cultural identity. I find that statement interesting because I also believe that with globalization everyone can express and promote their own culture, whilst it also can be a bit tricky if the person doesn't have strong cultural background they might lose their cultural identity.
Discussion point
If the world really turned to be a single global culture is it going to be a completely new culture, mixed of already existing cultures from around the world, or blending new and existed cultures?
