World Values Survey comparison of South Korea, Czech Republic and USA regarding homosexual parents
Are homosexuals as good parents as other couples.
I decided to compare South Korea, USA and the Czech Republic based on their opinion on whether homosexuals are as good parents as other couples. I chose these countries as they are each in a different part of the world, with different cultures, and was curious about what the difference would be.
As you can see from the responses above, 52,8% or majority
of the people in the United States agrees to some extent that homosexuals are
as good parents as other couples, with only 16,6% thinking they are not. Next
we have the Czech Republic where 40,3% agree to the statement and 27,8% do not.
We also see more people not answering or not knowing how to answer here as
compared to the other 2 countries. Finally, when we look at South Korea, we see
that only 22,7% agree, with 40% disagreeing and 37,3% being neutral.
In short, Americans
agree the most with this statement, followed by Czech people, while
South-Koreans are split between being neutral on the matter or not agreeing.
Looking at these results on The Inglehart-Welzel World
Cultural Map 2022, we can see that although all 3 countries are relatively
close to each other, there is still some distance between them. They are all
located in the upper, middle parts of the map. South Korea is highest on the
secular values, followed by the Czech Republic and the USA. While USA is highest
on the self-expression values, followed by the Czech Republic and South Korea.
Based on my personal, limited knowledge I think South Korea disagrees with the
chosen statement most as they still have more traditional ideas of what a
family is, and should be. LGBTQ+ is still somewhat of a taboo in the country,
and although it is improving, it’s not quite out there as it is in the USA and
the Czech Republic. In both of these countries the topic is more discussed and
known, and therefore more accepted. Where nuclear families, husband, wife and
children, used to be the only kind, nowadays there are many forms of family
composition, all of which are more accepted as both the Czech Republic and USA
are higher on the self-expression scale.
Maybe western countries have an objective view on homosexuality, and some people may accept it, but in South Korea, China may not be accepted or understood by everyone, and most of them will abide by the views of the older generation and be more traditional.
