Reading 3 - Political globalisation Thupten
Summary
Political globalization offers opportunities for liberation, globalization also leads to the loss of autonomy and the fragmentation of the social world. The writers argue that political globalization refers to the interplay of three processes: global geopolitics, global normative culture, and polycentric networks. Also, the writer says that the direction of political globalization is not a new global governing order or a world society, but a transnational political action that challenges neoliberal politics. The author supports his point with four examples of transitions in nationality and citizenship, the public sphere and political communication, civil society, space, and borders.
Interesting point
it is very interesting to see how political globalization is changing. It used to be more about power and nowadays it's about a social movement and solving the problem in our society. It is also very interesting how borders are becoming less and less important.
Discussion point
do you think boundaries are only about dividing up space and why?
