Reading Assignment 3: Political Globalization--SUN DAIYANG
What is the relation between politics and globalization ?
- Gerard Delanty and Chris Rumford
1.Summary
First of all,The “civil socialization” of politics both reinforces the idea that politics is increasingly shaped by a regulated global culture and points to the transformation of the nation-state as a venue for political struggle. Because of the conditions of globalization, the nation-state has apparently become detached from the state. The political community of the country does not exercise sovereignty over the country, and the country has lost most of its sovereignty. One dimension of the global transformation of nation-states is the rise of sub-state politics.
Global civil society greatly amplifies the global normative culture, and political globalization is most evident in the transformation of the wider public sphere through political communication and social change. The increased scale of politics as a result of globalization has led to a major reassessment of the role and meaning of borders and spaces in political construction. The emergence of new political spaces and the consequent border/reborder opportunities. Second, there is an increasing emphasis on mobility, flow and networking, which either connect existing places in novel ways or represent emerging spatial forms. The relationship between space and boundaries is central to understanding political globalization. New spaces and new forms of connection can be seen as an integral part of social and political relations. In modernity, the mastery of space – through boundary mechanisms, foundations Facility networks and state institutions - are at the heart of political community building.
Finally,The authors argue that political globalization can be understood as the tension between three processes that interact to produce a complex field of global politics; Global geopolitics, global normative culture, and multicentric networks. The globalization of democratic politics has been the foundation of "New World Order," which has been associated with the United States' pursuit of world domination and the legitimacy of world wars.
2.Interesting point
What I find interesting is that democracy is both popular and not credible by the majority. The globalization of the state, coupled with its political membership and institutionalized governance models, has shaped the general desire for democracy. According to this explanation, it can be said that a democratic country is an important carrier of political autonomy through popular sovereignty, and democracy is an important symbol of a democratic country in the world society. At the same time, the critique of democracy offers many forms of contentious issues.
3.Discussion
Political globalization and economic globalization are advancing and developing at the same time. Is there any conflict between the two?
